What I’ve Learned from Working with Independent Shops Across Ireland

A few years ago, I didn’t really know what made a greeting card sell.

I knew how to draw.
I knew how to create something meaningful.
But what actually moved from shelf to hand to home?
That was something I had to learn slowly…

And honeslty, I learned it from the people I now get to call my stockists.

The small, independent shops across Ireland who choose, very carefully, what they place on their shelves.

There’s a quiet kind of honesty in retail.

A card either gets picked up… or it doesn’t.
It either connects… or it sits.

And over time, a few things became very clear to me.

Not trends. Not quick wins.
But patterns in human behaviour.

People don’t buy cards because they’re “nice”.
They buy them because they recognise something in them.

A feeling.
A memory.
A person.

The cards that move quickest are never the loudest ones.
They’re the ones that feel true.

Simplicity always outperforms over-design.

Not because simple is easier.
But because it leaves space.

Space for someone to see themselves in it.
Space for meaning to land 💛

I’ve learned to pull things back more than I push them forward.

And our stockists? They know their customers better than anyone.

The most special stockists I work with, are so incredibly intuitive.

They don’t follow trends for the sake of it.
They choose with care.
They notice what people reach for, hesitate on, come back to.

Working with them has shaped my business more than anything else.

It’s made me more considered.

More focused on connection than noise.
More interested in longevity than quick success.

There’s a lot of conversation at the moment about growth, scale, doing more.

But what I’ve found, quietly, over time… is that there’s something very powerful in doing things well instead.

In creating products that earn their place on a shelf.
In building relationships with the people who stand behind them.

If you’re one of the shops I work with; Thank You!!!!

You’ve shaped this business in ways you probably don’t even realise.

And if you’re someone who’s simply found your way here, reading this,

you’re very welcome too.

All the Grá & Gratitude,
